Into the Woodlands: The Ethereal Town of Sagada

The quiet town of Sagada - where the secrets of the mountains lie.

The quiet town of Sagada – where the secrets of the mountains lie.

After overcoming the first set of challenges in Batad, Banaue and being rewarded with beautiful sights of rice terraces and a vigorous waterfall called Tappiya, it was time to leave the province of Ifugao for the next one, the hub of the Cordillera region. Literally named Mountain Province, this central division is bounded by ranges of mountain peaks everywhere. With roads leading to other adjacent territories such as Ifugao, Kalinga and Benguet, this province is considered a jump-off point to exciting destinations in the region. Little was known about the craggy Mountain Province in the past decades, but due to booming tourist activities in the whole of the Cordillera Administrative Region, the quiet towns within this enclave eventually shared a slice of the pie labeled as must-visit spots in the Philippines. Let’s conquer the adventure of your choice in the faraway forest town of Sagada in Mountain Province. Read the rest of the entry.

Island Paradise: Calaguas, the Pride of Camarines Norte

Powdery white sands, crystalline azure waters, clear blue sky - who wouldn't want to spend vacation here?

Powdery white sands, crystalline azure waters, clear blue sky – who wouldn’t want to spend vacation here?

A year after experiencing the beautiful shores of Nagsasa Cove in Zambales, we found ourselves once again thirsty for a summer outing at the beach. Gathering previously considered destinations, our trusty group organizer Ehnuh started fishing out deals from the internet for island getaways. While the last time we were deciding between Zambales’ Anawangin and Nagsasa Coves, this time around we were having a hard time choosing over the islands of the Camarines provinces in the Bicol Region, with both locations providing a wonderful beach experience guaranteed to satisfy vacationists’ summer cravings. While the islands of Caramoan in Camarines Sur surely attracted a lot of visitors because of the spot being featured in the Survivor Series of a few countries, including India, France, and recently the United States, the Outing Series group finally settled with the equally astounding white sand beach-filled Calagua Islands in Vinzons, Camarines Norte. As usual, we foraged for tour providers across the Internet which offer complete vacation packages in order to avoid the hassle of planning itineraries and preparing food and transfers. Eventually we found one and entrusted our summer vacation for 2013 to the Biyahe Lokal Team. Continue reading.

A Perfect Summer Getaway: Nagsasa Cove

As promised, I will be blogging about the first few out-of-town trips I have experienced with the great people of our Outing Series group, comprised of colleagues from our organization back in the university. The very start of our wandering sessions was marked on the fascinating shores of Nagsasa Cove, tucked away from modern influence by the mountainous region of the province of Zambales. It all began when we got bored of the usual nights out in resto bars and get-togethers at some friends’ houses, and decided to move out of the box and explore beach destinations for a change. Thus the search for perfect summer getaways from Internet sources and word-of-mouth referrals commenced.
